HyperX Cloud Buds Wireless – Review

HyperX is a California based company with the sole focus on one thing: Gaming. The RGB accents, naming conventions, and design tropes are all focused on celebrating gaming to it’s fullest. Today, we have a little treat. Meet the HyperX Cloud Buds Wireless, the new Bluetooth ear buds for both Mobile and the Nintendo Switch.

The Cloud Buds Wireless are a lightweight, in-ear entry made with portable gaming in mind. At it’s relatively affordable price point (£54.99), I wouldn’t go in expecting the most premium packaging, but what you do have here is focused on quality. Once you open up the box, You get the ear buds, extra ear tips, a charging cable and a fancy pouch. You have a control stick with the volume rocker and a built-in mic. There’s also a panel where you plug in the USB charge cable along with a power/pairing button.

Pairing these ear buds was pretty simple and straight forward. I first gave it a try on my iPhone playing Call Of Duty Mobile and setup was a snap. Just for fun, although this device was made with portable gaming in mind, I paired it to my PC via Bluetooth. This is where I was pleasantly surprised! The sound quality was excellent with no syncing issues. No crackling, massive audio delay, or offending frequency response either. What I received here was good solid, quality audio.

To round it out, I played Cyberpunk 2077, Horizon: Zero Dawn, and Yakuza: Like A Dragon. The Cloud Buds felt comfortable to a point where they made it into rotation as my default headset on PC during the review period. I also used Steam voice chat with the Buds, and once again, a painless, smooth, and quality experience.

As for music playback, I had a great experience on my iPhone listening to tracks on Apple Music. The Bass was excellent for something that small and the 14mm drivers were effective driving aural immersion in games. The Cloud Buds are also pretty impressive when it comes to battery usage. It does exactly what it says on the box. I got around 10 hours of usage before having to recharge. Thankfully, they come with a USB A to USB type-C charge cable where I got a full recharge to 100% in under an hour.
Now here’s the question you’ll probably ask. Are the HyperX wireless Cloud Buds worth buying? For the on sale price of £54.99, I’d say absolutely. You are getting a great sound experience with terrific battery life. HyperX also provides a 2 year warranty.

Simply: The ease of use, compatibility, and audio quality offer a terrific package that should both satisfy on the go users and those looking for a comfortable light weight experience.
