Sony Interactive Entertainment has confirmed to IGN Italy that their next generation console will not support 1440p resolution on high end gaming monitors. It’s definitely a bummer since the Xbox Series X and one X supports 1440p monitors natively.
So it looks like the PS5 games will render at 1080p and then upscale to 1440p if you hook up your console to a gaming monitor which is disappointing. I for one was hoping to get the most out of my recently purchased Samsung Space Monitor.
We’re hoping that Sony can correct this through a future firmware update as many people like to play on 1440p gaming monitors for that high refresh rate. The PS5 will support 1080p and 4K displays at 120hz.
