Scalebound was meant to be a Monster Hunter-esque action RPG by PlatinumGames. It was an ambitious title developed for the xbox one. The game was first revealed during E3 2014.
Fast forward to January 9, 2017, the game was sadly cancelled by Microsoft. There was a lot of controversy surrounding this title. Two years later, we now have a rumor of it’s revival. According to Nintendo Insider, Scalebound is being revived as a Nintendo Switch exclusive and Hideki Kamiya will be back to direct his dream project. Nintendo Insider stated the following:
I have confidence in my sources to report that it is my understanding that Scalebound has been resurrected as a project to be released as a Nintendo Switch exclusive. Given Microsoft’s previous involvement, it remains unclear to me whether development has been completely rebooted from scratch or, at the least, its ambition scaled back – seeing as it’s now destined for the nimble, but less powerful, portable home console.
If the rumours are true, it would be interesting to see how the game turns out on Nintendo’s hybrid console. Yes! It’s under powered compared to the xbox one but it’ll be great to see this game revived. It would make sense since Nintendo and PlatinumGames have a close relationship and partnered with many exclusive games, such as wonderful 101, Bayonetta 2-3 and the upcoming Astral Chain.
It’s also unclear on whether or not, the game is gonna continue from where it was cancelled or, if PlatinumGames will restart the project under a new name. We can only take this with a grain of salt but we’ll keep you updated as this story develops.
