Based upon a report by Brad Smith of Thurrott, Microsoft is working on a disk less Xbox to be released in 2019. It has been suggested it could be up to $100 cheaper then the Xbox One S making it a very attractive purchase. Microsoft would also provide a service to convert physical games to digital downloads with selected retailers.
With the Xbox Game Pass, Project xCloud and the availability of digital games in retail and online, we may see a future where a Blu Ray drive is only an option on a premium Xbox One.
The same report suggest that the Xbox Scarlett will be released in 2020. We have heard from a number of sources including the recent leaks to suggest the PS5 could be released in 2019, that would give Sony the “first to market” advantage over Microsoft. 2019 should be a very interesting year.
