Code: Vein – The game that we have been waiting for

Code: Vein is an action role-playing game set in an open world post-apocalyptic dystopian environment. Its gameplay takes inspiration from the Dark Souls series of games, which also published by Bandai Namco. It was first announced April 2017 and was featured at Microsoft E3 Press Briefing in 2017.

The story line

In the not too distant future, a mysterious disaster has brought collapse to the world as we know it. Towering skyscrapers, once symbols of prosperity, are now lifeless graves of humanity’s past pierced by the Thorns of Judgment. At the center of the destruction lies a hidden society of Revenants called Vein. This final stronghold is where the remaining few fight to survive, blessed with Gifts of power in exchange for their memories and a thirst for blood. Give into the bloodlust fully and risk becoming one of the Lost, fiendish ghouls devoid of any remaining humanity.

What we know about Code Vein so far

  • In a recent interview Yusuke Tomizawa (IP Producer) revealed that online co-op similar to Nioh/Dark Souls has been added, and the difficult has been better tuned.

  • The game will have co-op with up to two summons plus a NPC and yourself.
  • The AI partner (NPC) is a key character to the story and helps you in combat. The AI partner is optional and you can leave them behind. Each of these AI partners have their own unique moves, like the two-handed sword wilder Yakumo who is a frontline combatant that can shield you if you need to heal, Louis, a balanced character that can use combos to keep the pressure on enemies and easily swap places with you.
  • Bandai Namco today (02/07/2018) released its first character trailer on Mia Karnstein:

  • You can customise your own character.
  • The game has weapons and stats scaling similar to Darksouls (strength/dex etc.)
  • In an interview with VG247, Code Vein’s director, Hiroshi Yoshimura, commented on the idea of combos in the game saying “There are ways where you watch the enemy’s actions you can wait until after they’ve attacked and use it in their moment of weakness, or you can do something like a combo where you attack and actively create that moment of weakness in order to use the blood veil to suck the enemy’s blood. That’s the kind of combos we’re providing.”
  • Ichor is used to cast gifts, abilities that buff weapons, apply defences, heal allies and deal damage to enemy. Ichor can be gained by attacking, guarding, and using any ability that features a ‘drain’ effect. A successful backstab or a successful parry will help replenish the ichor you spend using gifts, and increase the maximum amount of ichor you can hold. Combat becomes a juggle of using gifts, attacking, using a drain ability to refill ichor, and managing the stamina usage. It feels a lot more fast-paced than Dark Souls.

  • Bandai Namco Europe announced a collector’s edition for Code Vein:
