Final Fantasy XIV has been getting strong support over the years with content updates and major expansions, with the recently announced cross-over with Monster Hunter World, it doesn’t just stop there, in a recent interview with VGR, Final Fantasy XIV director Naoki Yoshida has confirmed that he’s having discussions to bring this MMORPG on Xbox One and Nintendo Switch with cross-play enabled with PS4 and PC.
He wanted “as many to play as possible.” Discussions are still “ongoing” with all three platform holders – Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo – to see if the game can come to Xbox One and Switch with cross-play with the PC and PS4 versions. Yoshida mentioned he “hopes to announce something as soon as he can.”
Microsoft previously refused cross-play when the game launch on PS3 and PC, the xbox live cross-platform policy didn’t allow games from Microsoft’s online platform to share servers with games on other platforms. So if you played an online game on Xbox 360, you would not be able to play with the people on PlayStation 3. Microsoft recently made some huge changes to their Xbox Live cross platform policy, allowing cross platform play on all platforms and devices, we’ve seen this with games like Minecraft, Rocket League and Fortnite. With Sony recently refusing to allow cross-play on Fortnite, we’re not to sure how Naoki Yoshida will convince them otherwise, But with the potential Xbox One and Nintendo switch release, it can breath new life to the game.
